On June 30, 2026, Thailand deposited its instrument of accession to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. Thailand becomes the 130th contracting party. The Convention enters into force for Thailand on February 28, 2027.

What This Means Today

Until February 28, 2027, apostilles are not yet accepted for Thailand. Documents destined for Thailand still require the traditional embassy legalization chain: notarization, Secretary of State authentication, U.S. Department of State authentication, and Thai embassy legalization. Beginning February 28, 2027, a single apostille from the competent U.S. authority will suffice for documents used in Thailand. No embassy step. Faster turnaround. Lower cost.
