Israel Apostille & Document Authentication
For an Israeli transaction, establish whether the recipient needs a public record or a newly signed legal document. A U.S. apostille authenticates the relevant American signature; it does not determine whether a power of attorney meets Israeli legal requirements.
Israeli-issued documents
HCCH designates Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and designated court registrars or civil servants under the Notaries Law. Confirm the route for the exact Israeli public document or notarial act before sending it.
Signing and translation
Israel’s New York mission offers a separate consular signature-verification route. Its instructions require the signer’s presence and appropriate identification; real-estate transactions require a valid passport or identity card.
For that consular procedure, a document in a language unknown to the signer or representative needs a translation and certified translator affidavit. These instructions do not establish a universal Hebrew-translation rule for every Israeli recipient.
Prepare the recipient’s checklist
Ask the Israeli attorney or institution to approve the document wording, identification, translation and certification route. Provide the whole document for review, including any attachments. State and federal U.S. records require their respective U.S. routes.
Frequently asked questions
Will an apostille confirm that my power is legally sufficient in Israel?
No. Have the receiving Israeli attorney confirm the wording and signing requirements.
Must every document be translated into Hebrew?
No universal requirement is asserted. Obtain the receiving authority’s language instructions; the cited consular rules apply to consular signature verification.
